PRESS RELEASE
Hollywood, CA, Oct. 11, 2005--Paramount Pictures has acquired the
motion picture rights to Sharon Krum's best-selling novel The Thing
About Jane Spring for producer Christine Peters' CFP Productions to
develop, it was announced today.
The acclaimed novel, published by Viking, a division of Penguin, is a
romantic comedy that revolves around a career woman who was raised by a
widowed, four-star general without a female role model and has grown up
to be a "ball-breaking" prosecutor for the District Attorney in New
York City. Although her no-nonsense rough exterior makes her
ridiculously unlucky at love, watching some of Hollywood's leading
ladies in a marathon of classic romantic films helps transform her into
a woman that uses her femininity to get her way. After falling in love
with a grizzled police detective, Jane finally achieves the balance
between trying to win at all costs and being a classy, seductive woman.
Sharon Krum's first novel, Walk of Fame, was optioned by 20th Century
Fox several years ago.
CFP Productions President Bradford W. Smith will supervise development
with Creative Executive Petersen Harris. Paramount Pictures VP
Production Marc Evans will oversee the making of the film for the
studio. Barbara J. Zitwer repped the book for her agency.
Said CFP's Christine Peters: "This story is a classic romantic comedy
about self-empowerment as well as a devilish commentary on the current
state of misconceptions and expectations in the dating world. The book
speaks to our main audience - the demographic that Paramount and I
continue to target."
That target was reached successfully by Peters' previous project, an
adaptation of How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days starring Kate Hudson and
Matthew McConaughey, which grossed more than $177 million worldwide and
was a best-selling DVD, after Peters originally optioned the book.
CFP Productions is currently developing the sequel entitled How to Tell
He's Not the One in 10 Days; two projects that have come from their
innovative deal with Midway Video Games, Area 51 and John Singleton's
Fear and Respect; as well as Confessions of a Master Jewel Thief, among
others, at Paramount Pictures.
